There is no honest single completion time for a 20×20 cm Paint by Numbers kit. Two designs of the same size can contain very different amounts of detail.
Quick answer: think in relaxed painting sessions rather than a fixed number of hours. Larger colour areas tend to move faster; small detailed sections take longer.
What affects how long Paint by Numbers takes?
- Section size: lots of tiny numbered areas take longer than broad blocks of colour.
- Number of colours: changing paints frequently adds time.
- Coverage: some lighter colours may need another thin coat.
- Your pace: careful edge work takes longer than looser painting.
- Session length: some people paint for twenty minutes; others settle in for an evening.
Why 20×20 cm feels more manageable
The smaller canvas means there is less physical area to cover than on a 40×50 cm project. Our 20×20 cm kits are also pre-stretched on a wooden frame and include paints, brushes and a tabletop easel, so there is very little setup before you begin.
Do you need to finish it in one sitting?
No. Paint by Numbers is particularly easy to stop and restart because the numbered areas keep your place. Close the paint pots properly, rinse the brush and return when you want.
How does 20×20 compare with 40×50?
A 40×50 cm kit gives you more canvas and generally makes sense if you want a longer project. Our current 40×50 kits are supplied rolled with brushes and double paint quantity.
Which size is better for beginners?
If your main concern is keeping the first project manageable, start with 20×20 cm. If you already enjoy crafts and want more detail, 40×50 cm may be the better fit.
